Alert Rules
Configure when and how you get notified about compliance issues.
Alert Rules
Alert rules let you define exactly when you want to be notified and through which channels. Available on paid plans.
Alert triggers
| Trigger | Fires when |
|---|---|
| New violation | Any new violation is detected during a scan |
| Severity threshold | A new violation meets or exceeds your configured minimum severity (e.g., only alert on "high" or above) |
| Score drop | Your compliance score drops below a threshold you set |
| Scan complete | Every time a scan finishes, regardless of results |
| Weekly digest | A weekly summary email sent every Monday morning |
Notification channels
Email — Send notifications to one or more email addresses. Enter multiple recipients to keep your whole team informed.
Slack — Post notifications to a Slack channel via webhook URL. Available on Agency plans and above. Set up a Slack incoming webhook and paste the URL into your alert rule configuration.
In-app — All alerts also appear in your in-app notification bell, accessible from the page header.
Managing alert rules
Navigate to the Alerts page in your workspace to:
- View your notification history — see recent alerts with delivery status
- Create and edit notification rules — define triggers and channels
- Delete rules you no longer need

Default behavior
When a new workspace is created, BarGuard automatically sets up two default alert rules:
- Weekly Digest — A weekly summary email
- Critical Violation Alert — An email notification when critical-severity violations are detected
You can edit or disable these defaults at any time.
