Credits & Usage
How credits work and how to track your usage.
Credits & Usage
BarGuard uses a credit system for scans. Understanding how credits work helps you get the most from your plan.
How credits work
1 credit = 1 page scanned against 1 jurisdiction
For example:
- Scanning 1 page against 1 jurisdiction = 1 credit
- Scanning 1 page against 3 jurisdictions = 3 credits
- Scanning 5 pages against 2 jurisdictions each = 10 credits
Credit balance
Your credit balance is shown in the header via the credits popover. The popover shows:
- Your current plan
- Available credits remaining
- Total pages monitored vs. plan limit
- Total monthly credits allocation
- Next billing date and credit reset

When credits reset
- Free plan — Credits reset monthly
- Paid plans — Credits reset on your billing renewal date
Reserved credits
If you have scheduled scans configured, BarGuard calculates how many credits will be needed for upcoming scans and shows this as "reserved credits." If your reserved credits exceed your available balance, you'll see a warning.
Usage tracking
Navigate to Usage in your workspace for detailed credit tracking:
- Current balance — Credits remaining this period
- Used this period — Credits consumed with a visual progress bar
- Reserved — Credits committed to upcoming scheduled scans
- Scheduled breakdown — Per-project credit projections showing schedule type, URLs, and estimated credits per month
- Usage chart — Visual chart showing credit consumption over time
- Consumption history — Individual scan records with credits used, pages scanned, violations found, and compliance score

Running out of credits
If you run out of credits, manual and scheduled scans will not run until credits are available. You can:
- Wait for your monthly credit reset
- Upgrade to a plan with more credits
